What happened this past month (March):
The first full weekend of March Joy and Nathan entertained Joys parents as her mother prepared to fly to Hong Kong to see her family. Joy's grandmother has stomach cancer and so three of us (Mommy, Joy, & April) were going to go visit before anything else happened to her.
The second weekend in March Joy and Nathan went out to eat at Cosmo's - our local Italian restaurant. We got to use a coupon for their 10 year aniversary. Also that Sunday evening Joy left for Hong Kong.
The third week was very busy for Joy who was in Hong Kong. She met all her aunts and uncles, and most of her cousins. We walked around some beautiful monestaries during the day, and in the evening we had a big dinner with all of the family. Uncle Ling & Aunt Fong took the day off to show us around. They lent Mommy a cell phone, and Aunt Yuk Mui had given Mom some Octpus (Mass Transit Pass) cards so we could take the bus & subway. Bing Bing (our cousin) gave us some cute jewelry and a book with a map of Hong Kong and all the buses.
Wednesday of that week we had breakfast with Aunt Kit Ying and Uncle Ivan / Choon. Then we went to Lantau Island. We took the 360 Cable Car up to Ngong Ping and saw the huge Buddha there. Then we went to Tai O, which is a fishing village a little like the one Mommy was raised in. After that we stopped by the electronics market to get Joy and 8 gig card for her video camera. (Not entirely sure it's that big. It could be a fake. Won't find out until I use all the space up.) Then we had dinner.
On Thursday Uncle Choon & Hilda went with us in a hired Taxi (Uncle Choon's friend owned the taxi) to various parts of Northern Hong Kong & Hong Kong Island. We saw some beautiful monasteries. We saw Mai Po nature reserve where lots of birds visit in the winter. We visited a place which looks out on the border of Hong Kong and China - called Lok Ma Chau. Next we visited some mangroves along the coast. We ate lunch at Sai Kung I think. They have yummy soups & desserts. Then we went to Site 5 of the Hong Kong Geopark by the High Island Reservoir to look at Hexagon shaped rocks which formed when the lava flow slowly cooled. Kowloon Peak was our next stop - to see the lovely view of the downtown metropolis. Lots of people like to get fresh spring water from that mountain because it's supposed to be heathier than normal tap water. Next we stopped by the LDS Hong Kong temple. Then we went to Stanley and saw the Murray House. Finally for the end of the day we went to Victoria Peak and saw the beautiful panoramic view of the lit up downtown area. Then we had dinner with the family at Aunt Kit Ying & Uncle Choon's house. They have a great view. Uncle Ling had gotten pictures for us and also fancy chopsticks, rubber duckies, and a nice chinese shirt for each of us.
On Friday we slept in and read. Then we had lunch with Aunt Yuk Mui. She made siz delicious dishes. In the afternoon we visited our Chinese grandma. Then we went to the Avenue of the Stars and saw the symphony of lights. After that we went to Temple street to eat & shop. Our Aunt Yuk Jun had gotten us bags for shopping and Chinese fans, cute mini bag coin purses and other souvenirs.
On Saturday we took April to the airport. Then we had dim sum in Tuen Wan. We visited our Chinese grandma again. Then we visited some shops and market at Tuen Wan and went back to the apartment. We got some ice cream and new black slacks and went to bed early.
On Sunday we went to church, which was just across the street. After a hasty lunch we went to 2 parks and a nunnery. Then we went to Kowloon park where they have birds, plants, and lots of people. We went to a place for Peking dinner. After that we walked through Ladies Street (Mong Kok).
On Monday - my last day in Hong Kong we went to dim sum in Tuen Mun with Aunt Yuk Mui and her friend Ayong (not quite sure how to spell her name.) We got belts for the guys at home. We walked through a live fish & meat market. Then I went to the airport to go home.
The third week we had Mommy & Daddy Logan again because Mommy flew back from Hong Kong. My Chinese grandma had to go into the hospital after I left, and now she's in an assisted living facility. It's a good thing we saw her when we did because we don't know how much longer she has before succumbs to the cancer.
